Cabo Verde became a member of the Madrid Protocol on 6 July 2022 and has already received the first international designations in WIPO.

On 5 July 2022, the Government of Cabo Verde has notified WIPO in accordance with the Regulations under the Madrid Protocol, that Cabo Verde requires, when it is designated under the Madrid Protocol, a declaration of intention to use the mark.

This means that by designating Cabo Verde, the applicant or holder declares that he/she has the intention that the mark will be used by him/her or with his/her consent in Cabo Verde in connection with the goods and services identified in the international application or subsequent designation concerned.

Furthermore, according to the Industrial Property Code of Cabo Verde (Legislative-Decree 4/2007, issued 20-Aug-2007), every five years from the date of registration, except where the renewal fees are due, a declaration of intention to use the trademark must be submitted to the Industrial Property Office of Cabo Verde.
