The President of the European Patent Office, António Campinos, and Ana Bandeira, President of the Portuguese Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), signed a cooperation agreement on patent searches.
Under this agreement, as of March 1, 2025, the INPI may request the EPO to carry out search reports with a written opinion on patentability for national patent applications. In addition, it is anticipated that there will be support for SMEs, universities and individual inventors through an 80% reduction in the fee paid for research up to 400 applications.
Portugal is the 18th Contracting State with which the EPO has signed a cooperation agreement of this kind.
