The registration of domain names under.pt has been limited to names with a minimum of 3 alphanumeric characters. However, in accordance to the Registration Rules amended on 16-06-2014, this limitation will expire on 31 October 2014. We find that the change may be relevant, in particular, to owners of trademarks containing only two alphanumeric characters.

Since the number of possible combinations of names with 2 characters is quite small, and there is a set of combinations whose registration is, à priori, forbidden, (for example the names coinciding with existing country codes top-level domains, e.g. the names "pt.pt" or "es.pt") the DNS.PT authority set specific rules for the registration of 2 characters domains.

In general, registration of domains with two characters will open on 3 November 2014.
However for certain "especially atractive domains" registration will only be available at auction which will take place between 4 and 11 December 2014 in the website http://www.sedo.com.
The following domains are considered "especially atractive domains": or, xs, 99,11, 22, 55,88, ex, ok, hw, ko, pc, sw, 00, 01, 07, 09, 10, 20, 21, 30, 33, 3g, 40, 44, 4g, 50, 5g, 60, 66, 69, 70, 77, 80, 90, b2, b4, kk, oo, qi, t0, t1, t2, t3, t4, t5, xx, ya, hj, pq, ou.
A .PT domain name registration with two characters has to comply also with the general rules which apply to names under .PT. The domain names under .PT must have between 2 and 63 characters belonging to the following group: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 a b c d e f g h I j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z. The domain name may also have the following special characters from the Portuguese alphabet: á à â ã ç é ê í ó ô õ ú.
